Why It’s Important To Capture Each Season
While I was editing this Columbus, Ohio, at-home maternity session, these adorable sisters reminded me just how fast time flies. Looking back at our last session, I couldn’t believe how much they’ve grown. Their hair has grown longer, and one of their smiles—while just as sweet—now showcases a whole new set of baby teeth.
But they aren’t the only ones changing. Mom has transformed the most, just weeks away from welcoming their new baby brother.
These images capture the final moments before their world changes forever. Soon, their family dynamic will shift in the most beautiful way. I love that they now have these photographs to permanently preserve this special chapter—the season of life when it was just the four of them.
The Benefit Of An At-Home Maternity Session
As a Columbus family in-home photographer, I cannot help but compare this maternity session to my last shoot with this family. The main difference? This time, we shot in their home instead of outdoors at a metro park.
Don’t get me wrong—metro parks are great. If you value a natural backdrop, by all means, hire a photographer and head to a beautiful park. But if you crave photographs dripping with nostalgia, deep connection, and that irreplaceable feeling of “home,” an in-home session is for you.
If you’re a visual learner like me, seeing is believing. Take a look at the difference between the outdoor photo from our last session and the in-home image from our most recent one.

Look at the outdoor maternity session on the left and compare it to the at-home session on the right—the difference is night and day. Beyond my own growth in editing, notice the real point here: the undeniable connection radiating from the family on the right.
Shooting this maternity session inside their home instantly put everyone at ease. We captured them in the very space where they live their daily lives. The girls relaxed completely because it felt like a friend coming over for a playdate—and I gladly played that role! Mom and Dad simply got dressed and walked downstairs. No gathering last-minute items, no rushing out the door, and no driving to a park 20 minutes away. Instead, we captured the real activities this family loves, deepening the connection in every single frame.
Planning Your Own Fall At-Home Session
As you plan your fall family pictures, consider the beauty and nostalgia an in-home session creates. Picture yourself slipping into a cozy sweater, curling up on the couch, and reading books with your kids. Picture turning on music and dancing through the living room while fall leaves drift past your backyard windows.
Let’s capture your family’s story exactly as you’re writing it today. I want to build images that will instantly transport you back to the warmth of home with your babies 20 years from now.
