Why In-Home Newborn Photography is Perfect for Relaxed, Playful Families
I packed my camera bag and drove an hour and a half west for this Ohio in-home newborn session. Whenever I have a newborn session that involves a toddler, I know it is going to be a good time. Toddlers bring a level of unpredictability to my sessions, and that is exactly what I want. I truly feel like I create my best work when I am thrown into a chaotic situation. As an in-home newborn photographer, I lean into that unpredictability and focus on capturing the moments I see unfolding amongst the chaos.
Now, this newborn session had a little girl toddler, who brought all of the playfulness to our session alongside so many sweet snuggles. I focused on guiding moments that were very true to everyday life for this new family of four. When you bring a newborn into a home with an older child, that baby gets wrapped right up in the beautiful chaos unfolding around them every single day.
And I like to think they are better for it 😉
At multiple points during this playful newborn session, this little girl was seen jumping on her parents’ bed. It wasn’t just her face that lit up as she bounced—her parents’ faces beamed with pure joy just watching her. My eyes are always looking for those moments as they unfold. Observing is a craft, and it’s one that takes time to nurture if you strive to be a photographer who notices the little things. While I am always looking to grow in my craft, the art of noticing is something I truly love, and I cherish getting to share that gift with families when I step into their homes.
