The Reality of Newborn Days (And Why I Love Them)
There is a unique, beautiful chaos that comes with welcoming a new baby into your home when you already have a toddler running around. Your arms are constantly full, your coffee is almost certainly cold, and your heart is bursting in a way you didn’t know was possible.
As a Columbus Newborn Photographer, when I stepped into this sweet family’s home, that exact dynamic was on full display—and it was absolute magic.
Sunlight, Laughter, and Life With a Toddler
During this in-home newborn session with a toddler running around, instead of trying to force a rigid routine or quiet perfection, this session was centered around what life actually looks like for them right now. Mom and Dad were incredibly playful, jumping right into the energy of the morning and keeping their toddler girl laughing, twirling, and feeling like the ultimate star of the show.
We spent the majority of our time together in the kitchen and the living room, where bright morning sun completely flooded the space. There’s something so beautiful about capturing a family in the rooms where they spend their actual days—sitting together on the couch, balancing a newborn on a shoulder while helping a toddler, and letting the light spill in over all of it.
Capturing the Beauty in the Chaos
While the newest little one snuggled quietly, the room practically radiated joy and laughter. There was no pressure for the older sister to sit still or perform for the camera. Instead, we let her play, and Mom and Dad met her right where she was with big smiles, warm hugs, and pure patience.
That’s the beauty of an in-home newborn session with a toddler. It isn’t about creating a picture-perfect staged set; it’s about honoring the season you are in right now. Years from now, these are the moments they’ll want to look back on—the warmth of their sun-lit living room, the sound of toddler giggles echoing through the kitchen, and the quiet, fierce love that held it all together.
